In February we flew to Honduras to meet and travel with Hermana King (Carianne) at the conclusion of her mission. This is the view from our plane as we were flying over the mountainous country approaching the capital city of Tegucigalpa.
They don't follow many traffic rules in Honduras as evidenced by the car (far left) that was passing the pickup (center) that was passing the bus...
Hna King is visiting a pulperia, or a small convenience store, located at a member's home. Most people buy their groceries this way rather than at a grocery store.
We had collected donated bed sheets from our LDS Ward at home, and delivered them to an orphanage for handicapped children in Tegucigalpa.
It was a special experience to be able to attend two baptisms in Hna King's area. We grew to love these people as we visited them in their homes in La Joya (area of Tegucigalpa) with Hna King.

This furry little critter is a kinkajou(sometimes referred to as a honey bear), that was living at our jungle lodge near Pico Bonito National Park in northern Honduras. He loved nibbling on Hna's ears!

Gulls provided and interesting decoration for the top of these pier poles at a resort dock on a very small island adjacent to the island where we made a stop for a leisurely lunch.
This quaint little island was our lunch stop where we enjoyed a fresh fish plate in the Garifuna Village of Chachauate, which encompassed 90% of the island. Small island-lots of people!!

Hermana Carianne King poses near the scenic Cascades Pulhapanzack (falls) located in central Honduras near Lago Yojoa (the largest lake in Honduras). You might recognize this falls as a picture of it accompanied a brief article in the Feb 2011 Ensign magazine.
Laborers cut and stack sugar cane stalks which are blackened from fires used to burn off the leaves in preparation for harvesting of the cane. The cane stalks are trucked to the near-by sugar mill for processing into "cane sugar". This agricultural area is located in southern Honduras, west of the city of Choluteca, near the pacific ocean at the Bay of Fonseca.
Herman King thought she had her final bag "packed" and was going to lift it onto a scale to confirm she wasn't over the 50 lb. weight limit for the flight home from her mission. To her dismay the bag had not been zipped shut, so she would have to pack it all over again!
Hno and Hna (Bro. & Sis.) Garvis, Hna Carianne King, Patti and Steve King outside the very nice apartment building in a secured neighborhood, where the Garvis lived while serving their mission in the Honduras Comayaguela Mission. Hna Garvis was that mission's nurse and was an invaluable friend and medical resource for Hna Carianne, who served the last 9 months of her Mission as the nurse of the Honduras Tegucigalpa Mission. Hno. & Hna Garvis kindly invited us to be their guests while we were in the Tegucigalpa area during our visit to Honduras. We hope to repay their kindness, when Bro and Sis Garvis when they come to Colorado some day.
